Day At The Museum: Includiverse Bringing Collections to Life

The Includiverse and The Box Museum

Just like the movie Night at The Museum, Includiverse was given exclusive out of hours access to The Box where we brought exhibits to life using our accessible smart glasses solution. We started working with the team at The Box in October 2025 thanks to funding from Innovate UK Create Growth Programme. During this time we've worked closely with them to investigate how we can help increase access to their digital content. And when The Box announced a Polish exhibition would be coming to the museum we took the notion of access a step further by providing a foreign language alternative to the English subtitles.

Participants could choose between English and Polish subtitles

A Different Language is a Different Vision of Life

There's a thriving Polish community in Plymouth, we saw the opportunity to provide a translation for people who don't speak English as their first language. Using footage direct from The Box's digital archive we presented a short film with both English and Polish subtitles available in the smart glasses. Polish speaker Paulina gave up her time to provide the translation for us and we would like to extend our thanks - we truly couldn't have done it without her! Other members of the team gave up their valuable time to participate in this testing session and we even had South West television icon Gus Honeybun make a virtual appearance on the day. He appeared in the glasses alongside his iconic theme tune to give a short introduction and explanation of what to expect during the session.

Gus Honeybun made a cameo as the tour guide for the session

The feedback on the day was largely positive and the participants saw the huge potential that this new development has for all museums. Subtitles widen horizons for everybody, not just those who might be hard of hearing or require a translation. We discussed the potential of being able to see information in the glasses so you don't have to read the descriptions from far away while contending with the crowds at a popular exhibition.

Looking to The Future

The testing is done for now and the exhibits are back to normal as if we were never there. We will be back for more sessions in 2026 so watch this space. Keep an eye out on our social media for the latest updates and don’t forget to follow us and share with family and friends. Watch the full video of the testing day on the Soundview Media Youtube channel and if you find yourself in the museum during visiting hours, don’t forget to visit Gus Honeybun and thank him too - hopefully Mildred the mammoth won't get jealous!
