A Night at the Movies with The Includiverse
Here at the Includiverse we are fortunate to have an array of fantastic partners who have made this project possible. One of these is the Plymouth Arts Cinema, located in the heart of the city. The Plymouth Arts Cinema keeps community at its core and you will always find a friendly and inclusive space, complete with volunteers on-site, a bar in-house and frequent collaborations with the students at the adjoining arts university. The cinema screens everything from box-office hits to hidden gems, but on a sunny Wednesday evening, the Includiverse brought a screening with a difference. We interrupt your regularly scheduled movie-watching for a chance to try our Smart Glasses accessible solution!
Cinema-goers had the opportunity to stay behind after the movie to take part in the demonstration, and we were so pleased to see such a diverse audience in attendance. We never get tired of seeing the reactions to the in-device subtitles and BSL, and it’is always a pleasure to watch people get the hang of the technology and start to use it on their own. People frequently come back to us and say that although they don’t need our Smart Glasses solution personally, they know someone who would - a friend who is neurodivergent, a cousin who is dyslexic, a grandfather who has hearing loss. Our smart glasses solution opens doors, and its through members of the public attending events like these that we get to capture these moments and build on invaluable feedback.
A screening with a difference - Smart Glasses accessible solution at the Plymouth Arts Cinema
This demonstration would not have been possible without the generosity of the Plymouth Arts Cinema giving us their space and being such a huge supporter of this project. Plymouth Arts Cinema director Anna Navas shared her thoughts with us after the demonstration:
“It’s been brilliant for us to be partnering with Includiverse on this, just to have the opportunity to really test this kind of equipment and for us it just really expands the kind of conversation we can have around accessibility and I think for cinemas that’s really vital.”
