Includiverse Backing the Bid: Plymouth UK City of Culture 2029
The Announcement
Have you heard the news? Plymouth is bidding to become The UK City of Culture 2029! If the bid is successful, Plymouth will win a whopping 10 million pounds to go towards arts, music, heritage, sports and more. We were invited to attend a sector briefing session hosted by The Box Museum in Plymouth. Here’s what we learned.
Plymouth is a thriving cultural melting pot. We have the largest regional producing theatre in the country with Theatre Royal Plymouth, including four performance spaces (that is the lab, the drum, the lyric and even a space outside). The Market Hall in Devonport boasts Europe’s largest immersive dome and we have three universities in the city which bring in a wealth of youth and emerging creative talent. If you already work in or are a fan of the cultural sector here in Plymouth then this should not be any surprise to you, however the UK City of Culture bid is our chance to prove this to the wider population. Plymouth is the largest city on the South coast, and we have so much to offer.

The Bid
Led by the CEO of The Box, Victoria Pomery, delivered a presentation alongside the CEO of Plymouth Culture, Hannah Harris, addressing frequently asked questions, community-led surveys and additional opportunities to get involved. Being in a room of creatives is always an energising environment to be in, but even more so when we are joined together to work on a common goal - that is to bring more awareness to Plymouth! Marketing Executive Ceri attended on behalf of The Includiverse alongside representatives from the aforementioned cultural giants within the city and beyond.
