Going behind the wall - Premier of a new 360 Dome film.

Exploring HMNB Devonport

The SoundView team were honoured to be invited to the premier of a 360 film they created for Real Ideas, shot over a six month period.  Exploring HMNB Devonport is a unique 360 immersive experience giving you the chance to virtually visit the Naval Base, to 'meet' people who work there and to better understand the complex workings of the amazing 'city within a city' in Plymouth.

Seen through the eyes of three young people growing up in Devonport, the 360 film lets you experience areas you can't normally see including visiting the large frigate sheds, landing on the breakwater, and coming up the river on a tug. Celebrating the diverse range of skills, jobs and extraordinary opportunities on offer, the 360 film highlights what an exciting place HMNB Devonport is. The vast majority of the 650 acre naval base is hidden from sight behind the perimeter wall on one side and the 4 miles of waterfront near the mouth of The River Tamar.

 Privileged Access

It was a privilege to be able to film is some truly extraordinary places including on a former, and now  decommissioned nuclear submarine and Plymouth Breakwater. The breakwater is a mile long structure guarding the entrance to Plymouth Sound built in the first half of the 1800's. In those days locals took day trips out to see it, but nowadays you have to  gain special permission to access it. The beauty of 360 films is it makes the inaccessible, feel more accessible through the immersive experience. The film is going to be screened alongside programmed content at the Market Hall in Plymouth so be sure to check it out.
